How to verify an Idaho septic tank pumper

Idaho permits the company that pumps and hauls septage. The catch is the age of the published list.

The permit that allows pumping

Idaho requires a septic tank pumper permit under IDAPA 58.01.03 to pump a tank and haul the waste. The seven public health districts issue that permit; DEQ compiles the statewide permitted pumper list. A permit is valid throughout Idaho, so a business based in the next county may well cover your address. If the company that arrives is not on that list, that is a reason to stop the job.

The published list is from July 2026

DEQ publishes the register as a PDF stamped Last Updated July 2026. Permits are renewed annually. Businesses close, change hands and let permits lapse, so a name on these pages is a starting point, not proof the permit is still current. Ask which health district issued it and check that district's current file.

Verification steps

  1. Ask for the business name and which public health district issued its pumper permit.
  2. Open the DEQ septic and septage page and download the current Permitted Septic Tank Pumpers List, or call the health district for the county where the property sits.
  3. Confirm the company is still on the list.
  4. Confirm the business pumps household tanks at your address, then get a written quote.

Reading the county

DEQ publishes the business county on six district sheets. It is not a service area. The North Central District sheet published city and no county; those businesses are filed under the Idaho county that city sits in.

Idaho Code § 74-120 forbids using the roster as a mailing list or phone list. These pages are a homeowner lookup, not a bulk contact file.
