Minnesota licenses subsurface sewage treatment system businesses by designation, and Maintainer is the one this directory is about: MPCA tells homeowners they must employ a state-licensed maintenance business to pump out solids from a septic tank. Installer, Designer, Inspector and Service Provider are separate designations that can sit on the same licence, and 158 of the businesses here are licensed installers as well — the cards show every designation each licence carries.

MPCA's licensed-business search returned 362 maintainer records, 359 of them distinct businesses. Every one had licence status Current. 20 give an out-of-state business address and are not placed on a county page. Of the 339 remaining in-state businesses with a county, 28 clearly portable-toilet, restroom, outhouse, or grease-first names are held because their names do not say septic or septage. That leaves 311 listings across 81 counties. Licences on this snapshot expire between September 8, 2026 and August 26, 2029; each card carries its own date.

The county is the licensed business address, not a service area, and omission from a county is not a claim that nobody will travel there. A Maintainer licence is the pumping credential, but many Minnesota holders are excavating or plumbing firms rather than septic-branded ones — 121 of 311 say septic in the business name, and the rest carry a note asking you to confirm household work first.
