Start with the date

The DNR publishes its septage hauling business licences as a report that stamps its own run date. The snapshot used here is dated June 30, 2023. It may include businesses that have closed, changed hands or let a licence lapse, and does not establish who is licensed today.

Two things Wisconsin publishes that help

Each licence carries a number and an operator in charge: the certified person the DNR holds answerable for the work at that business. Both appear on every card here. When you call, the operator in charge is a useful name to ask for and to check against.

What the report does not publish is an expiration date, so no card shows one. A licence number on a 2023 report is evidence the business was licensed then, not now.

Verification steps

  1. Ask for the business name, its DNR septage licence number, and the operator in charge.
  2. Open the DNR septage business licence page and follow its Septage Business Lookup link.
  3. Search by licence number and match the business identity. If no record appears, try the first few letters of the business name. Narrow the search if it returns too many matches. A missing result alone does not prove that a business is unlicensed; contact [email protected] if results are missing, ambiguous or unavailable.
  4. Match the operator in charge to the person you have been dealing with.
  5. Confirm the business pumps household tanks at your address, then get a written quote.

County grouping comes from the DNR

The report is already sorted by county, so nothing is inferred here — unlike Arkansas, where we work the county out from the town. 6 businesses are filed under a Wisconsin county while mailing from another state, and 13 are filed under “Unknown” and appear on no county page. As everywhere on this site, the county says where a business is filed, not where it will travel.
