How this directory is built
Listings are copied from the NC DEQ Septage Firm Open Hauler list. We publish firms whose names clearly identify septic, septage, or pump work. DEQ's county field is the firm's home or mailing county, not a service-area map. Omission from a county shortlist is not proof that no pumper will travel there. For counties without a home-county shortlist, we link existing DEQ records to operators' published service areas and show the evidence and geographic limits separately. These repeat appearances do not increase the unique permit count. Always re-check the current DEQ list before hiring.

Chowan, Greene, Hyde and Jones have no Open Hauler filed under their county in the July 20, 2026 DEQ snapshot. Hertford, Perquimans and Washington have Open Haulers, but none in our current home-county shortlist. Their pages now show separately sourced service-area leads from existing DEQ-listed firms. Hyde evidence is limited to Ocracoke; mainland coverage remains unconfirmed. No home county or permit status has been changed to fill a gap.
