How this directory is built

Vermont requires an ANR waste hauler permit to transport residual waste — septage or sewage/wastewater treatment sludge — on the state's roads. ANR marks that credential with an R on the permitted-transporters list. This directory is those R rows.

Of the 524 permitted transporters, 131 haul residual waste. 69 have a Vermont base town. 62 are based in another state and are counted but have no Vermont county page. Residual waste is Vermont's septage-hauling credential, so nothing is filtered out by name — but sludge, construction and portable-toilet firms hold it too, so the 44 businesses whose name does not say septic or cesspool carry a note asking you to confirm household work first.

ANR publishes a town, not a county. Each town is mapped to a county from Vermont's municipalities (and named villages to the town they sit in). That county is the business location, not a service area: an ANR residual permit is a state permit.
